Jack Howl
“I don’t plan on gettin' along with anyone.”




APPEARANCE

Despite being a first-year student, Jack is an incredibly tall boy with a big body and considerably larger stature than his peers, especially other students his age. He has tan skin and a bulky, athletic build with noticeably defined muscles, which other students regularly comment on.

He has short, fluffy hair that spikes upwards, and a prominent tuft of hair falling between his eyes. His hair is a silvery-white color, and the hair closer to his neck fades into a darker gray. He has thicker-than-average eyebrows that match his hair color, and sharp golden-brown eyes with vertical-slit pupils. Instead of human ears, Jack has large, silver wolf ears on the top of his head with dark-gray tips. This is paired with a large, fluffy wolf tail of the same color that also fades into dark-gray at the end. When he shows his teeth, sharp fangs are usually visible, and he often has a serious look on his face that comes off as intimidating.

Like the other residents of the Savanaclaw dorm, he wears the Savanaclaw uniform. It consists of a sleeveless, dark-yellow shirt, a black leather vest, worn-out jeans, thick beaded jewelry, and an orange-yellow bandana with black trim and the symbol of Savanaclaw printed on it.

The shirt has a deep y-neck, and a black, geometric pattern on the trim. The leather vest has a design reminiscent of a “double-rider” biker jacket, with silver buttons and zippers. The jeans are a cool gray with visible creases. Over his jeans are black leather biker boots with stirrups. He also wears black short-length gloves. In spite of his delinquent air, Jack is keen on his appearance, keeping his shirt neatly tucked underneath his jeans, his boots shined and jewelry polished, and his ears and hair brushed.

Jack has his orange-yellow bandana wrapped around his waist and tied together with two silver rings on his left side. Hanging from the silver rings is a brown leather tassel, with one string of beads and a sharp white fang connected to it. The uniform includes a variety of jewelry, made up of thick beads that are gold, red, blue, and green. Jack wears two low-hanging necklaces with this pattern of beads over his shirt. He also has a thin brown choker around his neck, with a white fang pendant hanging from it.

Like the rest of the Night Raven College, Jack wears different sets of school uniforms and outfits requirements depending on the class or school occasion. There are five main uniforms.

School Uniform ~ The standard uniform worn within school grounds for all classroom lessons except PE. The uniform consists of a dark grey (black) blazer and dress pants, a white button-up shirt, a vest that matches the color of the student's dorm. A pair of black gloves and a black and white striped tie are both optional and customizable in their wear (Jack wears neither). The uniform includes a ribbon in the dorm's colors tied around the student’s left arm, with the dorm's emblem crest attached to it. There are no standard uniform shoes, so Jack prefers a pair of brown dress loafers. There does not seem to be any consequences for students modifying or wearing the uniform improperly, as many wear non-uniform shirts or forego different pieces of the uniform entirely. All students are given a magical pen upon enrollment. These are fountain pens which hold the user's magic gemstones, and are utilized as wands. The color of one's gemstone is determined by which dorm they are in (Jack’s is topaz). The students’ pen is often placed in the uniform’s chest pocket. Additionally, Night Raven College has summer school uniforms and designated winter coats for the students.

PE Uniform ~ Worn for classes where students exercise, such as flight and physical education, the PE uniform is a black jumpsuit with dorm-colored accents on the shoulders, arms, and legs. The right breast pocket features the dorm emblem, the school's emblem badge is sewn on the chest area, a holster for the students’ magical pen is attached to the left sleeve, and a label reading NRC and a student's class and seat number is above the left pocket. At the knees and elbows, there's a fastener inside that can be detached so the sleeves and pants are able to be shortened. The t-shirts worn under the jumpsuit are in the dorms' respective colors, with the dorm's logo on the right-side chest and the dorm's name on the left arm sleeve.

Ceremonial Robes ~ The most formal out of all the uniforms, this ceremonial outfit is worn to formal events held on campus, such as the entrance ceremony at the beginning of the year, reward ceremonies, or as representatives of the school in other places. The black ceremonial robes consist of black pants and a collared black shirt with golden embroidery on the collarbone area in the image of crow’s wings, long sleeves that loop around the middle finger via a ring the finger passes through, a black hooded robe with golden embroidery and purple lining with crossed keys, and a purple belt with the school emblem being on the center of the golden close buckle. The robes' cuffs have golden embroidery in the image of the Mirror of Darkness, its back embroidery in the image of crow’s tail wings, and the hood is slightly pointed in the back. It is custom to wear the hood during the ceremony and for the students also wear black eye makeup with the outfit. The ceremonial robes are the only uniform to not feature a breast pocket for magical pens, having a golden key-shaped chain holster worn around the waist instead.

Lab Gear ~ Worn for alchemy and potions classes, students wear their lab gear over their school uniforms, with the vest and jacket removed. It consists of a simple white lab coat with a left breast pocket, which has a stripe colored with dorm colors, and the dorm emblem on the left sleeve of the coat. The coat has cross buttons and napoleon collar, and the magical pen can be placed inside the chest pocket. The lab coat comes with a pair of long, black rubber gloves, and a pair of safety goggles in the dorm color. For students who wear glasses, their goggles have prescription lenses.

Dorm Uniform ~ Dorm uniforms are outfits unique to each dorm and worn in the dorm's area or for formal dorm occasions. The dorms have different designs that reflect the dorm's aesthetic. The dorm leaders are allowed to freely modify and alter the dorm uniform as they choose. Jack’s Savanaclaw dorm uniform is described above.



PERSONALITY


At first, Jack seems rather cold and distant, not relying on the help of others and claiming to be able to handle things alone. Jack also has a strong sense of justice, even betraying his own dorm when his fellow dormmates were attempting to sabotage the Spelldrive Tournament. As the story progresses, Jack has been shown to care for those he considers his friends, even though he'll often give a different reason to his actions. Once someone earns Jack's respect, he'll do anything within his capabilities to earn that person's respect back, and also help them in any way he can. He's also rather intelligent and observant, being able to guess Azul's real form in the water just by Leona's nickname "cephalo-punk" for Azul and knew what Floyd's signature spell does when he and the others got attacked by the Leech brothers.

At first, Jack seems rather cold and distant, not relying on the help of others and claiming to be able to handle things alone. Jack also has a strong sense of justice, even betraying his own dorm during the sabotage of the Magical Shift Tournament done by all members of Savanaclaw but him. As the story progresses, Jack has been shown multiple times to be surprisingly intelligent, being able to guess Azul's real form in the water just by Leona's nickname "octo punk" for Azul, and he knew what Floyd's unique magic did when he and the others got attacked by the Leech brothers. Jack does not like to be indebted to others. Jack has shown to have a good memory.

Jack is hardworking and deferential – he admires people who work really hard to achieve their goals
Top marks on tests, outstanding magical skill, not resorting to anything cowardly or underhanded
He can get flustered when admitting this, stammering and hesitating before outing with it loudly.

That’s why he gets really angry when someone tries to trick him or get away with something dishonest.

His tail can give away his mood, wagging when he gets really happy or excited




ABILITIES


Signature Spell / Unique Magic
Jack's signature spell / unique magic is called "Unleash Beast" and allows him to transform into a huge white wolf. Coupled with his already formidable strength and athleticism, this makes him an even more dangerous opponent.

According to Professor Crewel, transforming into another creature without using a potion is special, extremely advanced magic. It's unknown if Jack is able to use his other magical skills while transformed.

Its Japanese name is 月夜を破る遠吠えアンリイッシュ・ビースト or Anrīshu Bīsuto, literally translating to "silence-breaking howl of a moonlit night."

Magical Shift
Magical Shift (マジカルシフト, Majikaru shifuto) or Magift (マジフト, Majifuto) (JP) / Spelldrive (EN) is a popular sports game in Twisted Wonderland. Two teams of seven players each play against each other and try to score points by throwing a disk through the other team's goal and the team with the most points wins. Magic is required for Magift, as the disc is moved with magic, and magic is used to attack and defend against the opposing team. Players generally use the flashiest magic they can in order to show off their skills. While physical blocking is allowed, direct magical attacks are forbidden. Night Raven College is famous throughout Twisted Wonderland for its Magift players and has produced many on the pro-level.

Jack is known for his large size and strength and already had athletic notoriety even before enrolling in NRC. His skill at Magift, while still developing, is rumored to have invitations to join several major teams. Jack values the sport enough that he chose to attend NRC because he was so impressed by Leona Kingscholar’s legendary magift performance three years prior.
